For many people, clinical laboratory testing is an invisible side of medical care.

Yet many of the decisions the clinician makes about health status -obtaining a diagnosis, developing a course of action for treatment, or monitoring response to therapy – are based on laboratory data.

A laboratory must demonstrate that it is able to perform the test in a clinically acceptable way.  Regulatory agencies monitor the laboratory and set standards that a laboratory must meet in order to be allowed to perform the test.

These requirements ensure that the tests performed by the clinical laboratory for patient care will produce results that can be trusted.

Labgenius is totally committed to providing excellent medical diagnostic services to our valued patients through compliance with International Standards.

Quality is a Thought Revolution

Quality is based on Respect for Humanity

Quality is Not the result of an accident; it is the result of intelligent effort

Quality begins with the customer

Customer complaints are a vital quality improvement

The challenging question to the laboratory is “How reliable are your laboratory data/reports?”  The foremost responsibility of the laboratory personnel is to identify any error that could have occurred in the laboratory and rectify this error before sending the results to the clinician

The test results of any individual may vary due to three main factors, viz. pre analytical, analytical and post analytical. These should be tackled very efficiently.

What should our labs have to continually improve performance, satisfy customers, and successfully achieve universally recognized accreditation?

It is the organization’s culture that is focused on quality

What is Quality? “Quality is doing the right things and doing those things right”.

A solid base for quality is to establish a strong foundation of Quality Assurance; this will conveniently lead to achieving accreditation.  The watchwords are “SAY WHAT YOU DO, DO WHAT YOU SAY & PROVE IT”.

Say what you do: Proper documentation of all activities

Do what you say: Implement effectively what is documented

Prove it: Enter all relevant data in Technical Record

The laboratory will be able to demonstrate effective Total Quality Management if proper Quality Assurance (QA) procedures are implemented. QA refers to the planned and systematic activities meant to provide adequate confidence that requirements for quality will be met. These Include internal quality control (IQC), external quality assurance (EQA), pre-analytic phase, test standardization, post-analytic phase, management, and organization. The following checklist will be useful to the laboratory towards achieving the goal of providing quality service to patients:

  • Establish QC Policy & QC Procedures
  • Document IQC and EQA data
  • Plot daily IQC values on LJ Charts
  • Scan LJ charts for trends
  • Interpret IQC and EQA data
  • Carry out corrective actions for IQC and EQA outliers

Evaluate the whole QC programs from time to time towards their effectiveness and areas needing attention and ensure continuing publicity among clinicians on the significance of QC towards reliability.

Meticulous training of laboratory staff in all activities is of paramount importance, as well as staff evaluation after imparting training towards the need for retraining.  The laboratory shall strive towards a learning organization embracing deficiencies as opportunities for improvement.

The laboratory should be forethought, honest, transparent and demonstrate organizational honesty for the benefit of patients.

Implementation of effective quality management certainly costs, but the benefits such as improved customer service, reduced wastage, etc. outweigh the cost involved. The bottom line to be kept in mind is “QUALITY COSTS….POOR QUALITY COSTS MORE”.
